In Memory of Emma Hutchison (1980-2024)

My first photoblog honours my amazing wife, Emma Hutchison, who passed away in November 2024.

My aim is to capture Emma and her inspiring quest for life in the face of overwhelming adversity. As a result, I selected not the most beautiful photos but the ones that best capture her courage and personality. They are a small selection - and portraits only - of thousands I took over two decades.

The photos criss-cross time and space, meandering through Emma’s passions, which I display here without explanation.

My Tribute to Emma offers more details on her remarkable life and personality.

There will be a second photoblog that I promised to Emma. Called “The Body in Pain,” it will depict her years of suffering, which remained largely invisible to the people around her. But I first need to build up enough courage to review these photos and select them with the care they require

Instant Selfies

Note

The photographs in this blog were taken with a variety of digital and analog cameras over 20 years: an Olympus OM-D E-M5; a Fujifilm X100; an i-Phone SE; a Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 and a 30-year old Leica M6.

All photos are mine, except for Emma’s own instant selfies, which she took as talismans to wish me luck for a big event or solo trip.
